Twenty delegates of the 65th Miss Universe Pageant visited the Heritage City of Vigan in Ilocos Sur last Sunday, January 15, 2016 and got a glimpse of the historic and rich cultural colonial heritage of the country as part of the ancillary event of the most prestigious pageant event in the universe.
The delegates who spend one full day at the historic city are: Misses Great Britain, Jaime Lee Faulker, Netherlands, Zoey Ivory, Nicaragua, Marina Jacoby, Sierra Leone Hawa Kamara, Slovak Republic, Zuzana Kollarova, USA, Deshauna Barber, Thailand, Chalita Suansane, Brazil, Raissa Santana, Bulgaria, Violina Ancheva, Vietnam, Dhang Thi Le Hang, Singapore, Cheryl Chou, British Virgin Islands, Erika Creque, Guatemala, Virgina Argueta, Malaysia, Kiran Jassal, Czech Republic, Andrea Bezdekova, Uruguay, Magdalena Cohendet, Belgium, Stephane Geldof, Cayman Island, Monyque Brooks, Venezuela Mariam Habach and our very own Miss Universe Philippines, Maxine Medina.
They were warmly welcomed at the Baluarte by former Ilocos Sur Governor Luis Chavit Singson who owns the place. Gov. Chavit Singson’s LCS Group of Companies is one of the prime-mover on the Philippines’ hosting the 65th Miss Universe. Immediately, the ladies answers several questions from the members of accredited media during a mini-press conference and had an encounter with exotic wildlife housed in the Baluarte Zoo.
History and Fashion dominates the evening, as the delegates gracefully walked the cobblestone walkway of Calle Crisologo to the delight of local and tourist alike, wearing elegant Filipiniana Terno designed by local designers of Ilocos, the Fashion Designers Council of the Philippines and Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines. A Cultural Terno Fashion Show witnessed by thousands of fans and spectators was held at the Plaza Burgos capped by a thirtry minute Grand Fireworks Display.
Other top tourist destinations such as Cebu, Baguio, Davao and Batangas are still on the line-up before the all-important Preliminary Competition scheduled on January 26, 2017 at The Mall of Asia Arena. The new Miss Universe will be crowned on January 30, 2016.
